Julianne Moore and Julianne Nicholson are both pretty freckled, yet they're both my wives. I'm not a freckleist.

This thread was the first time I learnt that Jamie Bamber is naturally blond. A part of me just died inside. I used to have this big crush on him. The blond pics just killed it. ![none [none]](./images/smilies/none.gif)
...it was the opposite with Chris Pine.
I generally seem to go for the mid-range of people who don't look like the extreme of one race: not too white, not too black, not too Asian, etc, presumably because I'm racist against all the races. Extra points if they're mixed to some degree.
like Keanu in his immortal tri-racial glory
Keanu is always awesome and ridiculously pretty
I'm not attracted to him though.

Do you people have a completely different definition of blonde than those of us who live in real countries?

Wow, that song was fucked. They're probably right by saying everyone's a little bit racist (a lot of people are a lot of bit racist), but they supported that claim with a huge steaming pile of horse shit and offensive stereotypes, all of which was meant to make white people feel better about their racism and tell people of color to chill the fuck out.

I don't think the creators of "The Internet is for Porn" were really trying to support their claim. And I highly doubt Robert Lopez was telling POC's to "chill the fuck out".

No idea what that means, but the song listed numerous "reasons" why everyone's a little bit racist (black people make Pollack jokes, the Asian girl does something I couldn't understand because of the ridiculous accent, etc.), and tried to equivocate that shit with white supremacy. It was all horse shit. Also, they said everybody tells racist jokes and they're funny, so people need to just cool it and learn to laugh or something. Sounded a lot like Vegas and Marv's mantra.

That was the first time I actually heard the song, despite hearing references to it for years, and that's sort of the impression I got too.

^I think the song was created as satire of the very attitude of equating minor racist things with white supremacy, given that those songwriters do songs like that. But out of context it's hard to tell, Poe's Law, etc.

Re: "I don't find [X] people very attractive"
Avenue Q was essentially South Park meets Sesame Street, so any songs "justifying" a position probably shouldn't be taken as such. One of their songs is "The Internet is for Porn". Are you telling me you think the writers believe that? The show has another song talking about how great schadenfreude is.BruceSmith78 wrote:The creators of the internet is for porn or Robert Lopez. Robert Lopez is a Filipino American who co-wrote the songs to Frozen, Winnie the Pooh (2011), The Book of Mormon, and Avenue Q. If Filipinos are POC's, then by your logic, he's telling himself to "chill the fuck out".

Re: "I don't find [X] people very attractive"
Well they did a pretty shitty job of satire there, if you ask me.
Also, POC's say or do racist shit sometimes, like telling minorities to chill the fuck out. So saying "he's a POC, he wouldn't tell POC's to chill the fuck out," isn't much of an argument. I think it's just tokenism.

Re: "I don't find [X] people very attractive"
Like I said, I mostly agree that everyone's a little bit racist sometimes, but the examples the song gave of POC's being "racist" were bullshit examples, and it all smacked of, "hey, racism's not so bad, white people are sometimes a little mean to POC's, but POC's are sometimes a little mean to white people too, so it's a wash, no big deal."

I don't see it that way at all. The way I see it, the examples they gave were just identifying what seem to be salient tendencies of each race, only to the most extreme. They aren't really equating racism with being a little mean. They're being hyperbolic in their presentation, showing there's a racial divide even over the *seemingly* most innocent things. Keyword I will admit is "seemingly"
On another note, I don't appreciate your assertion of tokenism without evidence. That implies that the minority didn't contribute to the show in a significant way or was the inferior collaborator (even though he co-created Avenue Q's concept & co-wrote all 21 sons) and was only there for minority representation. That in itself sounds kind of racist.

Re: "I don't find [X] people very attractive"
I think you misunderstood what I meant by tokenism. You saying that song isn't racist because Robert Lopez wrote it is tokenism. You were using Robert Lopez as a token to prop up your assertion that it's not racist without even trying to explain why it's not racist. Not sure what other evidence I need, and it has nothing to do with the level of involvement he had in creating the song.
I got none of what you typed in your first paragraph from the song. Like not at all. I think you're being overly charitable in your interpretation because you like these people (Avenue Q or Robert Lopez or whatever).

The reference to evidence was based on the misunderstanding that you meant Lopez was chosen as the token minority for the show. That was wrong of me to use him as such.
