You have no idea what what means?BruceSmith78 wrote:No idea what that means, but the song listed numerous "reasons" why everyone's a little bit racist (black people make Pollack jokes, the Asian girl does something I couldn't understand because of the ridiculous accent, etc.), and tried to equivocate that shit with white supremacy. It was all horse shit. Also, they said everybody tells racist jokes and they're funny, so people need to just cool it and learn to laugh or something. Sounded a lot like Vegas and Marv's mantra.
Avenue Q was essentially South Park meets Sesame Street, so any songs "justifying" a position probably shouldn't be taken as such. One of their songs is "The Internet is for Porn". Are you telling me you think the writers believe that? The show has another song talking about how great schadenfreude is.BruceSmith78 wrote:The creators of the internet is for porn or Robert Lopez. Never heard of either of them.
BruceSmith78 wrote: Also, POC's say or do racist shit sometimes.
BruceSmith78 wrote:Like I said, I mostly agree that everyone's a little bit racist sometimes, but the examples the song gave of POC's being "racist" were bullshit examples, and it all smacked of, "hey, racism's not so bad, white people are sometimes a little mean to POC's, but POC's are sometimes a little mean to white people too, so it's a wash, no big deal."
And I think you're being overly righteous. This is clearly one we're not going to agree on.BruceSmith78 wrote:I think you misunderstood what I meant by tokenism. You saying that song isn't racist because Robert Lopez wrote it is tokenism. You were using Robert Lopez as a token to prop up your assertion that it's not racist without even trying to explain why it's not racist. Not sure what other evidence I need, and it has nothing to do with the level of involvement he had in creating the song.
I got none of what you typed in your first paragraph from the song. Like not at all. I think you're being overly charitable in your interpretation because you like these people (Avenue Q or Robert Lopez or whatever).

Well fine, I'm just gonna go drown my sorrows in what the internet is truly for...Derived Absurdity wrote:That should be the general attitude from now on, it would save us a lot of hassle in the future.
